Terms & Conditions

Last updated: July 2026

Kalahari Explorer is a booking platform operated by Auklété Investments CC ("Kalahari Explorer", "we", "us"), connecting travellers with independent Namibian stays, safaris and experiences, business suites, and vehicle rental operators ("Operators"). By using this site, creating an account, or making a booking, you agree to these Terms.

1. What Kalahari Explorer is — and isn't

Kalahari Explorer is a marketplace. We connect guests with Operators and facilitate booking and payment, but each stay, safari, suite, or rental is owned and operated by an independent third-party Operator, not by Kalahari Explorer or Auklété Investments CC. Operators are responsible for the accuracy of their listings and for delivering the service booked. Every listing is reviewed by a Kalahari Explorer admin before it goes live, but this review does not make us the provider of the underlying service, and does not guarantee the accuracy of every detail an Operator provides.

2. Accounts

You don't need an account to make a booking — you can check out as a guest by providing your contact and payment details. If you do create an account, you're responsible for keeping your login details secure and for all activity under your account. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account or make a booking on your own behalf; bookings that include children must be made by an adult.

3. Bookings and pricing

The price shown at checkout is the final price for your booking: the listing price, plus any optional extras you actively choose to add (such as a game drive or airport transfer, each clearly priced or marked free before you add them), plus VAT where the Operator is VAT-registered (shown as its own line — never hidden). We don't add any separate service fee on top of what you see. Guest counts, including any children, must be entered accurately — pricing for children (where an Operator offers reduced or free pricing by age) is calculated from the ages you declare, and an Operator or admin may ask for reasonable proof of age at check-in.

4. Payment

Bookings are currently paid by EFT (bank transfer) into Kalahari Explorer's account. After paying, you attach your proof of payment and a reference number at checkout. Your booking is held (the dates or spots are reserved) but stays pending until a Kalahari Explorer admin verifies your payment against our bank statement — this is typically completed within one business day. You'll receive an email once your booking is confirmed. Card payment via a secure payment gateway is being introduced and, where offered, is subject to the same all-in pricing and is processed by our payment provider, not stored by us.

5. Cancellations and refunds

Cancellation terms can vary by Operator and by listing. If you need to cancel or change a booking, contact us at kalahari@auklete.com with your booking reference as soon as possible, and we'll liaise with the Operator on your behalf. Because payments are currently processed manually by EFT, any refund due is also processed manually by bank transfer back to you, and may take a number of business days.

6. Reviews

If you've completed a confirmed booking, you may leave a public rating and review using your booking reference. Reviews must reflect your own genuine experience — we may remove reviews that are fraudulent, abusive, or unrelated to the booking. A listing's displayed rating is calculated automatically from its real guest reviews.

7. Operators

Operators listing on Kalahari Explorer confirm that they either own the property/service they list, or are authorized to list it on the owner's behalf, and are responsible for the accuracy of their listing, honoring confirmed bookings, setting any children's pricing policy they offer, and complying with all applicable Namibian laws (including licensing, tourism, tax, and VAT obligations relevant to their business). Operators are charged a commission on each booking, deducted from their payout — this is never added to the guest's price. Kalahari Explorer reserves the right to review, reject, suspend, or remove any listing or account at its discretion, including where authorization, accuracy, or conduct is in question.

8. Conduct

You agree not to use the platform for any unlawful purpose, to provide false information (including guest counts, ages, or payment details), or to attempt to circumvent our booking, review, or payment processes. We may suspend or terminate access for accounts that violate these Terms.

9. Intellectual property

The Kalahari Explorer name, logo, and site design belong to Auklété Investments CC. Listing content (photos, descriptions) belongs to the Operator who submitted it, who is responsible for having the rights to use it.

10. Liability

Kalahari Explorer facilitates bookings but is not responsible for the acts, omissions, or quality of service of any Operator. To the extent permitted by Namibian law, our liability in connection with any booking is limited to the amount paid for that booking. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under Namibian law.

11. Disputes

If a disagreement arises between you and Kalahari Explorer, contact us first at kalahari@auklete.com — most issues can be resolved directly. Any dispute that can't be resolved this way is subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of Namibia.

12. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time as the platform evolves. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the updated Terms.

13. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Namibia.

Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what personal information Kalahari Explorer (operated by Auklété Investments CC) collects, why, and how it's handled.

1. What we collect

Guests: name, email address, and — when you book — the details needed to complete that booking (dates, guest count including any children's ages for pricing, and your proof-of-payment file and reference number for EFT bookings). If you create an account, we store your name, email, and a securely hashed password (never your password in plain text). If you leave a review, your name, rating, and comment are stored and shown publicly on the listing.

Operators: business/property name, contact name, email, phone number, banking-relevant details needed for payout tracking, and the listing details you submit — including, where relevant, the name of a property/service owner you're listing on behalf of and any VAT registration number.

2. How we use it

We use this information to process and confirm bookings, verify EFT payments, calculate correct pricing (including any children's pricing and VAT), communicate with you about your bookings or listings, review and approve listings, track operator payouts, and operate guest and operator accounts. We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

3. Who we share it with

When you make a booking, we share the details necessary to fulfil it (your name, contact details, and booking specifics) with the relevant Operator. Proof-of-payment files are only ever accessible to Kalahari Explorer admins for the purpose of verifying payment — they are not shared with Operators or any other third party. If card payments are used, payment details are handled directly by our payment provider and are never stored on our servers.

4. How we store and secure it

Your information is stored on our servers with access limited to authorized Kalahari Explorer administrators. Passwords are never stored in plain text. Proof-of-payment files are stored under randomized filenames, not publicly accessible, and only retrievable through an authenticated admin session. Password reset links use single-use, time-limited tokens that expire automatically after one hour.

5. Cookies and local storage

We use your browser's local storage (not tracking cookies) to keep you signed in between visits, by storing a session token on your own device. We don't use third-party advertising trackers.

6. Data retention

We keep booking and payment records for as long as reasonably needed for accounting, tax, and legal purposes, even if you later delete your account. Proof-of-payment files are retained only as long as needed to verify and reconcile that booking.

7. Your rights

You can ask us to access, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you at any time by contacting kalahari@auklete.com. Where we're required to keep booking or financial records for legal or accounting reasons, deletion may be delayed until that requirement no longer applies.

8. Children

Kalahari Explorer accounts and bookings must be made by an adult (18+). We do collect children's ages when a parent or guardian enters them for the purpose of applying a listing's children's pricing — this is used only for that booking's pricing and is not used for any other purpose.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the platform and applicable Namibian data protection law evolve. We'll update the date at the top of this page when we do.

10. Contact

FOR OPERATORS & AGENTS

Kalahari Explorer Agency Services

Last updated: July 2026

Getting paid for your stays, experiences, or rentals should be simple — and it is. Here's exactly how it works, and what it means for you.

The short version

When a guest books your listing, Kalahari Explorer collects the payment on your behalf (currently by EFT, into our own account), verifies it, and then pays you out — your share, after our commission, straight to you. This is Kalahari Explorer acting as your agent: we sell on your behalf, and we pass the proceeds through to you. You don't need any special setup to use this — it's the default for every operator and agent on the platform today.

Why it works this way

This isn't a limitation — it's actually how most guests currently pay (by EFT), and Namibian financial regulations require exactly this kind of arrangement when a platform is receiving funds by bank transfer on behalf of multiple businesses. Rather than treat that as a hurdle, we built Agency Services to make it work smoothly: you focus on delivering a great stay or experience, and we handle collecting payment, verifying it, and getting your share to you.

You always know where you stand

Every booking on your dashboard shows exactly what you've earned, what's still owed, and once an admin has sent your payout, that's marked clearly too. Nothing is hidden — you can see the same numbers we're working from.

Prefer to be paid directly?

If you already have (or plan to get) your own DPO Merchant Account, you can tell us that when you register — your card bookings pay out straight to you, no Kalahari Explorer step in between, once card payments are fully live on the platform. And it's not all-or-nothing: you can also choose to accept EFT bookings alongside your own card payouts, for guests who don't have a card handy. One thing worth knowing: a bank transfer can only ever land in a single account, so if you opt in to EFT, those specific bookings route through Kalahari Explorer Agency Services — while your card bookings still come straight to you either way. The choice of EFT vs. card at checkout is always the guest's; whether EFT is offered to them at all depends on what you've set up.

In short

Whichever combination you choose, you're covered, you're paid, and you're never left guessing. Most operators are perfectly happy running entirely on Agency Services — it's simple and works with any payment method your guests prefer. If direct card payouts matter more to you, that's available too — and you can still keep EFT open for guests who need it.
